Axillary hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating from the armpits. Sweating is normal in humans, the evaporation of the water from the skin takes the heat away from the body and so sweating is essential for temperature control.
Although some people have hyperhidrosis as a consequence of another illness, in many others it is merely due to overactive swear glands or over activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
Botulinum toxin is used by many medical practitioners to reduce wrinkling of the skin. To reduce sweating a very small amount of Botulinum toxin is injected using a tiny micro-needle into the area, which paralyse the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.
The treatment is relatively painless and will take about half an hour to complete. There are no side, or after effects and normal activities can be resumed immediately. The treatment will last for up to nine months.
