Sculptra is an injectable treatment that stimulates the body’s own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Sculptra also restores lost facial volume gradually giving you a fuller, younger looking face.
Sculptra is a synthetic injectable material known as “poly-L-lactic acid”. Poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). Poly-L-acid has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants and other types of implants.
Application areas for sculptra:
Sculptra works gradually to give a natural effect. Usually 2-3 treatments are required and results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks, (however, in some patients this may take longer or require more treatments). Clinical studies have shown that the results of Sculptra can last for up to 2 years after your last treatment.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects include bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising or swelling at the site of injection. These side effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect with Sculptra can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area. As with all procedures that involve injections through the skin, there is risk of infection.
