Studies show that anywhere from 80-95% of women (and up to 10% of men!) suffer from cellulite- and not just those who are overweight, but skinny minnies are prone to it too!

Whilst many health and beauty magazines regularly feature tips and products on how to combat it, it’s still an issue that many of us face and it can be a source of embarrassment for those suffering.  So what exactly is cellulite?  Most sources will tell you that this dimpled appearance usually seen on the leg and buttock areas (as there is a lot of fat in these areas) is due to an imbalance in the connective tissue and fat in the body.  Factors such as hormones, genetics, your diet and lifestyle all contribute to this imbalance.  Changes in your diet which can help beat cellulite include eating more Omega-3 fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins, drinking more water to flush out toxins and taking gelatine supplements.  Using a dry brush to exfoliate the area, or making a coffee scrub at home can be beneficial in reducing cellulite, the exfoliation benefits skin by stimulating blood/lymph flow and as a bonus the caffeine in the coffee has a tightening effect.

At Harley Street Aesthetics we offer a number of treatments that can help to combat cellulite, or the ‘orange peel’ look.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage:

Designed to increase blood circulation and lymph flow, this type of massage enhances extra-cellular fluid clearance and improves oxygen flow through the whole body. It has therapeutic, aesthetic and relaxation effect and the massage action breaks down and smoothes this layer of connective tissue.

Mesotherapy:

Pioneered by French doctor Dr. Michel Pistor back in the 1940s, this treatment involves injecting small amounts of homeopathic medicine under the surface of the skin to break down cellulite and to improve circulation. The Vitamin C in this blend encourages the tone and quality of the overlying skin also.  You will need a few treatments for optimum results- one or two per week over a period of 4 to 8 weeks.

Dermal Roller/Microneedling:

This treatment using medical grade needles involves pinpoint punctures which push pores open temporarily and encourage the body to start the healing process, releasing growth factors and triggering collagen and elastin production.  Again, you will recover a series of treatments (usually 3) to see the best results.
